Kundalini Yoga
While the system of Kundalini Yoga is vast, my approach is entirely improvisational, focused on meeting you where you are.
With 20+ years teaching expertise, I specialize in adapting practices to address a wide range of needs:
- Alignment and structural issues
- Rehabilitation from injury or repetitive strain
- Special needs of older adults, those in recovery, or managing illness
We explore practices to open up new, expansive options, respecting your body's unique strengths and limitations. Classes are individually-tailored to adults of all levels, with movement accessible from the floor, a chair, or standing, ensuring everyone can participate and evolve their capacity over time. You can expect to feel positive results almost immediately.
WHAT IS KUNDALINI YOGA?
The original purpose of all yoga, as conceptualized in the Upanishads, was to awaken our soul's energy and purpose, known as Kundalini. Kundalini Yoga offers a direct and powerful method to achieve this. By moving beyond the mind's dualistic nature and cultivating a neutral mind, practitioners can make life decisions from the wisdom of the heart and soul, rather than being driven by the survival-based emotions of fear, worry, anger, grief, or pain.
This is a powerful technology rooted in ancient tradition, often called the "Yoga of Awareness." As a practitioner and instructor, I specialize in the modern, kriya-based system brought to the West in 1969 by Yogi Bhajan.
Kriya translates to "action"—a precise sequence of postures, breathing (pranayama), hand positions (mudra), mantras, and body locks (bandha). These sets are designed to target specific systems of the body, such as the glandular, nervous, and energetic (chakra) systems utilizing the science of angles and triangles to unlock deep physical transformation.
Movement Intelligence™
"Movement Intelligence™ (Bones for Life®), developed by the late senior Feldenkrais Trainer Ruthy Alon, is an innovative, somatic education program inspired by Moshe Feldenkrais. It is designed to help you 'grow better, not just older' by fostering optimal alignment and bone-strengthening, dynamic movement. Suitable for all fitness levels—whether you prefer a gentle, restorative pace or a more dynamic approach—this program uses rhythmic, springy pulsations to stimulate bone nourishment and improve posture. It is a proactive, evidence-based approach for anyone concerned with osteoporosis, sedentary habits, or building a more resilient, reliable skeleton.
Qigong
- What is Qigong? (pronounced 'chee-gong'), This is a Chinese mind-body practice integrating posture, movement, breath, and intent to cultivate "vital energy" (Qi) for improved health.
- Energetic Benefits: It's internal medicine, manipulating energy (Chi) to build mitochondrial power, warm joints, vital organs, and boost circulation.
- Mind-Body Connection: Gentle postures and breathwork calm the sympathetic nervous system, promoting relaxation.
- Core Philosophy: Grounded in heart-centered balance, it uses postures like prayer pose (hands at heart) to foster love, joy, and purpose, radiating positive energy.
